Wii Love StrongBad

April 11, 2008

I saw this yesterday but didn’t get a chance to post anything about it.

Telltale Games, the folks who make the episodic Sam & Max games, and Videlectrix, the people who stunned the world with Trogdor and Peasant Quest, will be coming out with a Strong Bad game for the Wii.

The episodes for the game will start coming in June for the Wii, and a bit later for the PC.

I’m a big fan of StrongBad emails and Homestar Runner in general, so I’m looking forward to this.

Avoiding Bad Habits

March 13, 2008

So, the kids have been out of school this week for Spring Break.  That leaves Michelle and the kids and a highly impressionable young talking bird in the house.  All at once.  I see this as a coming disaster.

I’m waiting to come home and be greeted by Zoey with such phrases as, “Mom! What?!”  or “Where’s the phone?!”  or “Brennnonnnn!”  You know, the usual stuff that gets thrown around when there’s four bored kids making trouble.

I’m pretty sure parrots are a lot like children.  You can sit there for days and try and get them to say something like, “Hello!” and “Night-night!” and stuff, and they’ll never pick it up.  But call someone a bastard and you’ll never hear the end of it.  Ten years after the event they’ll still be saying it when you invite the local preacher over for dinner.  And parrots can live for about thirty years, if properly cared for.  Which can be very difficult when they’re trying to eat your glasses.

Olde Tyme TV: Buck Rogers

January 28, 2008

Out of a fit of nostalgia I watched a couple episodes of “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century.” I found it interesting, even if no one else did. I hadn’t seen them since they originally aired in 1979. The two episodes I watched were two hours long each. So it was a lot of Buck Rogers for one night.

I had only remembered a few things about the show. Like Twiki’s “bidibidibidi”

noise (which drove everyone crazy within 15 minutes), and the fuel lines for the space ships, which are those lighted cables they use for parties now. And the tight jump suit that Erin Grey wore (some things stick with you through adolescence).

Everything else I had really forgotten. I had forgotten that the fighters looked pretty cool. I had also forgotten how much skin they showed. I had really forgotten Gil Gerard’s awesome fighting stance. It’ll probably take another 29 years to forget it.

I don’t think I realized, when I was 11, how much they took from “Battlestar Galactica” in terms of props and stock footage.

I look forward to watching the rest of the episodes. I don’t think the rest of the family understands that I need to watch these old shows and movies every once in a while. It’s a chance to re-visit my childhood, no matter how cheesy and badly acted they are.
