So far so good on the Linux desktop front. I’m now running:
- Gentoo 2006.1
- KDE 3.5
- Beryl/Emerald
- kxDocker
- kbfx
I’ve also took the time to visit KDE-Look.org to spruce things up a little bit. I got myself a new icon set, a new cursor set, a different look for kbfx, and a KDM theme. It’s getting there.
Of course, there’s not much sense in running kxDocker and kbfx at the same time, so I’m going to have to figure out which one I like more. Or I may see if there’s yet another alternative. We shall see.

Well, this is interesting. Phillips has developed some clothing that has moving, colorful lights called “photonics” that looks pretty interesting. Imagine, if you will, a t-shirt that has an ad on it. But this ad moves and changes and lights up.
Just sitting here I can think of a billion uses for this. They mention on the site about the ability of using Bluetooth and wi-fi. Imagine paying a discount on the article of clothing (or backpack or whatever), but whenever you get close to a wi-fi hotspot you download ads. Ad subsidized clothing. How great would that be?
Somewhere in the FAQ section they also mention using touch sensors and other things. If you were standing in line at an amusement park, you could play a game on the person’s back in front of you. Or watch a movie. How neat!
The porn industry must already be thinking of a bunch of stuff they could use all that for.

Well, now. I’m nearly happy with my Linux install.
I’m using Gentoo, KDE 3.5.2(ish), Beryl and the beta nVidia drivers and it’s pretty groovy.
Yes, I know, a lot of people are about to choke on that. I’m sorry. I like eye candy. I’ve got a nice, powerful machine and I intend to load it up with as much junk as it can handle. It’s not like it does anything very important.
What I would like to do now is to get KDE up to 3.5.5. I’m not quite sure if I really want to do that, though. The last time I updated KDE from the experimental side I whacked it up pretty good. This time I think I’ll just wait until it hits the stable section.
Beryl/Emerald is pretty neat, though. Know I have wobbly windows and wavy menus and all kinds of weird crap. I don’t run it all the time, though. Just when I’m in the mood for some bizarre stuff.

Oops. It appears I’ve gone and done it again. I’ve left my blog to rot. I apologize to anyone that reads this stuff. I do intend to come back and add more things. I’ve still got the section of Myths that’s about half done.
There are a couple of other things that bear mentioning, but I won’t mention them yet. I will be honest with you, though, and say that I’m a lot more interested in keeping this up if people leave comments. Or suggestions. Or whatever. As long as I know people are looking then I’ll keep a closer eye on it. Honest.
